Painting Ourselves Redeemed: Day 1

We can paint ourselves Stubborn or Happy (see August 2nd-3rd posts), or all manner of other colors. Our day's work becomes another canvas hung in our gallery of days done.

There is a choice canvas that, when painted by our free will, is hung with the utmost care.

It means we chose to dip our paintbrush of decision into a corner color spectrum we can't see and exists only as a promise for now.

Who dips into something they can't see? A little risky to be sure.

If we are in charge of our free will, why risk it on something unknown?

I think it is all in the whisper.

Remember the glue trap of Stubborn (see August 2nd post)? We look right at God as he whispers ways to become unstuck from our stubborn messes and say, "I'll just stay Stuck, thank you very much."

God's biggest help lies in leading us out of the glue trap we are born into--the one that requires us to exercise our free will to become reconciled with him.

He knows we are Stuck in this one. Every single one of us, from our moment of entry into this life. And so he whispers, "Join me in this life. We can do this together. I can show you life on this earth and on the ride after."

Incredibly, we say, "No thank you. I'll just stay Stuck. I don't want anything you offer."

Perhaps it is because we are born Stuck into this particular trap. We didn't get to choose to step in so we will exercise our free will to not step out. Hmm, sounds a bit like Stubborn.

So curious. We don't want to be aligned with the guy that created sunsets and keeps the earth on its axis. We only want what we can see.

You've heard the story put this way--each of us, still in the womb and given the choice, would choose to stay in where it's warm, comfy and known. Why risk the unknown?

But like it or not, here we come. No choice on that one.

The gift of this unknown--this current life--is getting to decide if we want this next unknown. None of us is forced here--just beckoned by the whisper. Much to contemplate...should I or shouldn't I?

Tomorrow: What's in it for me?
