The church one attends,
The translation one reads,
The authors one follows,
The company one keeps. We perch ourselves on the side of the high and mighty and disrupt the work of the High and Mighty. Disgruntlement and judgment become the view from the outside looking in, and those in need of Jesus wonder why the argument, why the malice?
It is the hallmark of maturity to live in the absence of malice.
When a church finds that groove, it is free to teach that Jesus is the way to God. Period.
We don't have to dress up that Truth with timelines of justice that we will never administer (God's job), with superiority claims that some are in and some are out (Jesus died for all), or denominational quirks that create unnecessary hoops and exclusivity.
If we simply sell that Jesus is the way to be reconciled with God to live a free and abundant life beginning now and lasting into all of eternity, and we sell it by embracing each other's frailties and messes, loving each other even when we act in unlovable ways--no fear, no strings, no hoops--we are the ones who are blessed.
More from Philippians 2:
Be energetic in your life of salvation, reverent and sensitive before God. That energy is God's energy, deep within you, God himself willing and working at what will give him the most pleasure. When we acknowledge Jesus and begin our life of salvation, we are always hosting God, his energy and the work he wants to do through us to extend the invitation:
Come one, come all, come now.We are selling life with Jesus. How inviting is our storefront? How inviting is our store? How are we displaying our garments of Truth?
No dynamite needed. No fireworks among friends. Truth, Jesus, Hope.
