Our Work is to Rest

With tears in her eyes, Sela told me how she is afraid she will die in the night.

She is eight, and it is the time in childhood when fear tries to take its "rightful" place in her life.

I say "rightful" because we pretty much give in and let it establish itself for life.

We may soon overcome that fear of dying in the night but it is replaced with every other fear we can think of; we are so dutiful to fear that we practically make it one of our adult jobs.

So I tell you--and myself--the same thing I told her:
It takes practice to strengthen your mind against fear. Over and over and over again, give every fear to Jesus and ask Him to protect your mind always, especially as you sleep.
The result is to enter the rest of God that is promised to us if we keep taking our mind to that place of freedom, of choosing to believe that He has our best interest at heart and He will protect us if we rest in Him.

Incredible work...incredible results.

Our work is to keep taking ourselves to this place of rest. In fact, your best day's work is to rest.

Work hard today.
