Sacred Ground

Carol Kuykendall, in Daily Guideposts, offers this from Oswald Chambers:
If you are going to be used by God, he will take you through a multitude of experiences that are not meant for you at all; they are meant to make you useful in his hands.
I can't quite wrap my head around the "not meant for you at all" in juxtaposition with "they are meant to make you useful in his hands."

Kuykendall, diagnosed some years ago with Stage 4 ovarian cancer, sees how God has used her journey through illness to give hope to others:
I keep discovering how life-giving and hope-bringing our personal stories can be, especially when they are shared with a person walking the same challenging path that God has walked with us. That's sacred ground. And I've discovered a new life purpose.
Her journey with ovarian cancer--her deepened dependence on God and celebration of his faithfulness--is now sacred ground that has brought to her a new life purpose.

Through the filter of Oswald Chambers' words, the cancer wasn't meant for her at all, but rather, to make her useful in God's hands.

That is sacred ground.

The bleakness of what happens to us may not be God's intent, but rather a color added to our earthenware vessel, always in the making, ever more beautiful and pliable--and useful--for God's purposes.

Our continued best to Carol Kuykendall.
